Who Does God Lead?

It’s easy to veer off-course. To glance occasionally at God, but intensely focus on problems to solve. Or ideas to pursue. Or, what to do next. And maybe God has dropped into the background.

That’s what happens to me, anyway. And here’s what follows. Things not working right. Frustration. A critical attitude toward others maybe. Loss of motivation.

Again, I’m going to God in confession for not steadily looking to him. For considering what I need to do more important than him. I hate admitting this, but such is my personality. I move ahead quickly. Work hard. Stay focused…but in my heart and mind, God can fade in importance.

Does God forgive? Does he forgive you when you do this? (Maybe you don’t struggle with this as much as I do.)

Fortunately, God got my attention. Everywhere I looked, things weren’t working right. Problems with Google advertising, problems with our server, problems with funding, and I could go on. Was God correcting me? Or was it spiritual warfare, Satan’s attacks? Or just the normal ups and downs of life? Didn’t matter. I knew what to do.

Early in my life as a Christian my friend taught me the importance of waiting on the Lord. Within Psalms 25, which talks about this, is also clarity on WHO God will lead. (Find those answers below.)

“Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.”

“For your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great. Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.”

God forgives sinners, AND he is willing to guide us.

“He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.”

“Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.”

The advantage of this? Problems are back in God’s court to solve, using his power, his wisdom, his timing. Once again, my role (our role) is to trust him, wait for him to act, follow him. He becomes the focus.

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord…” Ps 130:5

“…hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption.” vs 7

If we are viewing this life only with earthly eyes, it is difficult to trust God. We need to see with the eyes of our hearts enlightened by his word. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen…” Heb 11:1

The New Living Translation words it this way: “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”

An author, Manley Beasley: “Not only do we as children of God have the capacity to see things that are not seen, and hear things that are not heard, but the Holy Spirit speaks to our spirits. You can’t work until you’ve first worshiped. Then you are a co-laborer, not just a laborer. That means Christ is your strength. Christ is your wisdom. All you’re doing is cooperating with him.

Our gracious God who forgives, who leads the humble. He is amazing!!!!
